Intelligent moisture meter that measures wood moisture content, temperature and humidity in timber elements and structures.
Woodsense is a Danish company that specializes in protecting wood construction from moisture, which can cause critical damage before even it becomes visible.
Our task was to create a device which used as little energy as possible, as the device was intended to be placed inside a wood construction without easy direct access post-installation.
Moisture levels are critically important for timber construction lifespans, though usually the mitigation reaction time following an incident is quite slow, as often a problem is only detected once it’s too late. For the communication source we chose LoRaWan and used our MSAMR34 module. The optimal version of the device has up to 10 years of battery life, with real-time data easily accessible via a convenient interface. In this device, we combined the practical with the useful; the measurements are acquired through the original mounting holes which are screwed into the wooden construction. Measurements are very precise as the device uses a wide range resistance measurement scale (from 10 kΩ all the way to 10 GΩ). Due to the specificity of its placement, Woodys are resistant to high moisture as its PCB is protected.
During the development process, Grinn was responsible for Woody’s hardware design and software development, which, from inception until final production, took only 5 months. Thanks to Woody, users obtain accurate and timely information regarding moisture levels of a given wood construction, lowering the risk of serious damages and costly repairs.
